Preview
West travel to Salford on Tuesday evening to play Irlam FC. It follows a confidence-boosting 4-0 win over Barnoldswick Town at the weekend which moved West back into the top half of the table with a game in hand.
Irlam have started the season well and they sit in 6th with six wins from their opening eight league games. They are yet to play any of the division's top eight however, aside from a meeting with Chadderton in the FA Cup which they lost 1-0.
Tuesday's hosts lost their last game, which was away at Euxton Villa. Their last home game ended in particularly unusual circumstances though as their game against City of Liverpool had to be abandoned at half time, seemingly due to an incident in the tunnel between the two sets of players.
The main threat for Irlam in recent seasons has always been forward Declan Daniels, and he has started the season well once again, with six goals in eight starts, three of which have come from the penalty spot.

At Silver Street (against Irlam): P7 W2 D2 L3 F14 A12
West have typically struggled against Irlam and have not picked up an away win at Silver Street since a 3-2 victory under the stewardship of Dave Powell in April 2019. Stephen Hall's winner secured the victory that day after West had let a two-goal lead slip. That was the first of a trio of wins that re-ignited West's ultimately futile survival cause at the tail end of the 2018/19 season.
In fact, that's the only West win in the last 11 meetings between the sides, with Irlam taking maximum points against West seven times during that run.
Irlam did the double over West last season with a 1-0 win at Brookburn Road in September (REPORT HERE) and a 3-2 win on home turf in November (REPORT HERE). ___________________________________________

Irlam FC was originally established in October 1969 as Mitchell Shackleton Football Club by workers at the Mitchell, Shackleton and Company engineering firm in Patricroft, joining the Manchester Premier Divison in 1972. The club won this title in 2002/03, two years after being renamed Irlam Mitchell Shackleton.
This was also their first season at the Silver Street ground, which had been vacated following the demise of the unrelated Irlam Town club seven years earlier. After winning the Manchester Challenge Cup in 2005/06, the club dropped Mitchell Shackleton from its name, adopting its current moniker.
Despite finishing eighth in the Manchester Premier League in 2007/08, Irlam were promoted to Division One of the NWCFL. The club added further silverware in 2009/10, defeating Wythenshawe Town 3-2 in the final of the Manchester Charter Standard Cup. They were NWCFL Division One runners-up in 2015/16, earning promotion to the Premier Division where they have remained since.
