West came back down to earth with a bump as Irlam completed a league double on a cold night in Salford.
Paul Marshall made three changes; Zak Bailey and Lewis Billingsley, who were on the pitch at the end of Saturday's win at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, were both handed starts and Connor Hughes returned after not being eligible for the Vase. Jake Kenny and Billy Matthews moved to the bench while Jordan Lazenbury missed out.
A disastrous first half put the game beyond reach, Declan Daniels headed Irlam into an early lead and soon doubled his tally from the penalty spot. Mason Everton added a third just before half time and West looked a shadow of the team that had won the previous two away matches.
West rang the changes at half time and came back out much better, Jack Banister pulling one back with a smart finish before Jack McConnell scored his first goal for the club to set up a grandstand finish.
West pushed hard for an equaliser in the last half hour with Banister coming closest, rattling the crossbar, but it wasn't to be.
