RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Matthew Durrant · 23/09/2018
While we may not have been able to get the result that we wanted on the pitch against 1874 Northwich, off the field West experienced one of our most fruitful performances of this or any season. With 364 in attendance at Brookburn Road, both home and away support did the North West Counties Football League proud as we invited Every Month Manchester down to help them fundraise for their incredibly vital cause. As previously mentioned, we were inundated with prize donations for our raffle, and those at the game (as well as many who weren’t, having contributed) helped towards an astounding total that will help fight period poverty in our local area. At the final count, £384.50 was donated in cash, with over 1500 tampons and 1100 sanitary towels donated – enough to make in excess of 100 period packs for Every Month to distribute to people experiencing period poverty.
This, of course, is only a temporary solution and for a very specific area of the country – much wider changes made by much larger forces than a club such as our are needed if we are to fight poverty in all of its forms. However, this still represent an incredible contribution from our supporters, and acts once again as a reminder of the unerring community spirit of West Didsbury & Chorlton. Whether you purchased one ticket or donated a sack full, all at West would like to thank each and every person who got involved. Special mentions go to our prize donators (Enganche Press, Home MCR, Albert Hall, Mike & Kath Tyldesley, ICYMI, Electrik Bar, Shindigger, and Reasons To Be Cheerful), and to Every Month and their volunteers.
Writing on their Instagram page, Every Month said:
The superheroes at WDCFC helped us raise £384.50 as well as 5 WHOLE BINS worth of period products!
We couldn’t have hoped for a better turn out and we want to thank every single person who helped us raise such a huge amount. Every product and every penny will be appreciated hugely by people experiencing period poverty
We would like to give a special thanks to the glorious Rosie, Becky and Gabrielle for volunteering to collect all the donations today
