Wythenshawe Amateurs 2-1 West – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

Wythenshawe Amateurs 2-1 West

Saturday 5th March 2022, NWCFL First Division South

Wythenshawe Amateurs 2 (Adewusi 32, 37)
West 1 (Heathcote 51)
Att: 652

West fell to a disappointing defeat to Wythenshawe Amateurs at Hollyhedge Park.

Chris Rowley’s side gave themselves too much to do in a dismal first period, falling two goals behind, with Sam Heathcote’s second-half header ultimately a consolation.

James Hooper had an early half-chance beaten away by Ammies keeper Kyle Haslam, but West never looked settled and Samuel Adewusi punished some absent set-piece marking after 32 minutes.

Adewusi was again given the freedom of the West box five minutes later, converting a low cross from the left wing. The visitors struggled the muster a response, though Haslam escaped censure for bringing down Ben Elliott in the area as half time approached.

Heathcote headed his 23rd goal of the season six minutes after the restart, and though West dominated possession from this point clear chances were still a scarce commodity.

Haslam was called into action in the final moments, denying Elliott and Heathcote, but ultimately the home side were deserved victors and West move on to a must-win pair of home fixtures next week.
