Women’s Team Confirm 2019/20 Retained List

West Didsbury & Chorlton Women can confirm their retained list ahead of the 2019/20 NWWRFL season.

West begin their season tomorrow in the FA Cup against Didsbury at Brookburn Road tomorrow, 2pm KO, as they look ahead to their first ever season at Step 5.

Experienced goalkeepers Leah Fish and Claire Jefferson were two of the league’s most consistent goalkeepers last season. With Leah Fish out United with a broken wrist, the goalkeeper department has been boosted with the arrival of 17-year-old Olivia Schilling.

In front of them is one of the league’s most formidable defences as Captain Shauna Edmondson, Ellie Caddick and the imperious Katy Wilman have all remained for the new season.  The defence has further been strengthened with the arrivals of Leah Dolan and Rachel Mason.

West’s right winger, the women’s team only ever-present, Sophie Bracegirdle is one of three wingers retained for the new season along with Jami Hodges and teenager Abi Littler.

Vice-Captain Vicky Kerr leads the list of retained midfielders that includes Amy Vyas (back from travelling), Hannah Mitchell, Vicky Frisby and teenager Paige Chalmers who joined in March from Urmston Meadowside.

Additionally, they’ve been joined by Shannon Billington and Kath Jones who’ve joined from Altrincham and Stockport County respectively.

Scoring more than 50 goals between them last season all-time West leading scorer Elizabeth Livesey has been retained alongside last seasons leading scorer Rachel Dunlop.

The ones that got away…

Three players depart West ahead of the new season and the club would like to place on record it’s thanks for their contributions.

Following medical advice Managers Player of the Year Chloe Spencer has been forced to retire. A character off the field and a superb talent on the field everyone at West wishes to express their thanks for Chloe’s contribution to the club.
