West Didsbury & Chorlton have been drawn at home/away to NWWRFL Division One South side Didsbury in the Preliminary Qualifying Round of the 2019/20 Women’s FA Cup.
The game will mark the start of the Women’s team 2019/20 campaign with the game taking place on Sunday 1st September, 2pm KO, at Didsbury Sports Ground.
Didsbury finished 9th in their inaugural season in the NWWRFL after having won the GMWFL in 2018. West and Didsbury have met on three previous occasions with West running out 7-0 and 7-2 winners in the league last season whilst they were 8-0 victors in the second round of the Manchester Women’s Challenge Cup.
This will be the third time West have entered the Women’s FA Cup since forming their women’s team in 2017 with their first ever competitive fixture coming in the same competition. That game was played at home to Warrington Wolverines which saw them run out 3-2 winners thanks to a late Elizabeth Livesey goal after the West forward and Sophie Bracegirdle had initially given West an early two goal lead. West would eventually reach the first round proper, bowing out to Farsley Celtic 6-4 after extra time, following wins over Blackpool and MSB Woolton.
Last season West were awarded a bye in the Preliminary round and faced Manchester Stingers in the first qualifying round at Kings Road. A long range effort from Hannah Mitchell got West underway before goals from Shauna Edmondson (2), Rachael Dunlop and El Powles secured a 5-2 win in the South Manchester Derby. A 5-0 away win to NEWFL side Tingley Athletic followed before eventually bowing out at Brookburn Road in a 4-0 defeat to Women’s National League side Bolton Wanderers.
