Competitive football returns this weekend as West being the road to Wembley with a day out in Barnsley where they face Athersley Recreation in the FA Cup.
Following last weekend’s inter-squad game at Brookburn Road Steve Settle’s side have had a full week to prepare for the opening fixture of the 2017/18 season.
Following the FA’s controversial move to open the season with the Extra Preliminary Qualifying Round of the FA Cup last season; West will look to advance for the second time after they edged past AFC Liverpool following a replay last season.
In addition to £1,500 in prize money, the winners will face a trip to the winners of Northwich Victoria or 1874 Northwich in the Preliminary Qualifying.
Kick-off is 3pm and admission is £5 for adults, £3 concessions and FREE for under12s accompanied by an adult.
Elsewhere on Saturday the Reserves have their final pre-season game of the summer when they travel to Warrington where they face Cheshire League Two side, Moore United. Kick-off is 3pm.
For those who cannot travel this weekend there is still some football action at Brookburn Road to be enjoyed as West’s Women host Sir Tom Finney on Sunday, 2pm KO.
Having enjoyed an impressive pre-season to date they were brought back down to earth by NWRFL Premier Division side Burnley last Sunday losing 10-0 and will face another tough task as they face the Division One North Champions. Sir Tom Finney, formerly Preston North End, won the North Division last season and take their place in the Premier Division alongside Burnley.
Kick-off is 2pm, admission is FREE, the bar is open and everyone is welcome.
