RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Rob McKay · 21/09/2017
West supporters have a full ‘Weekend of West’ to look forward to as BOTH the First and Women’s teams are in action at Brookburn Road.
Saturday see’s West’s road to Wembley continue with the first ever competitive meeting against Stockport Town in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round. West ease passed fellow NWCFL First Division side AFC Blackpool in the last round winning 6-1 whilst the Lions collected a scalp winning 4-3 away to Premier Division side Northwich Victoria.
The two sides met at Lambeth Grove in July with West running out 3-1 winners in the pre-season friendly but that will have little bearing on Saturday’s game when Dave Wild’s side come looking in search of a second Premier Division scalp.
Kick-off is 3pm. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 concessions and FREE for under-12s accompanied by an adult. Supporters are asked to note that season tickets are no valid for this competition due to FA rules.
Elsewhere on Saturday the Reserves will look to build on the previous weekends win away to Middlewich Town when they travel to FC St Helens, 3pm KO.
On Sunday, West’s Women’s team, fresh from their FA Cup heroics the previous weekend will welcome City of Liverpool to Brookburn Road as they look to kick off their NWWRFL season.
Their cup run and poor weather have meant Paul Caddick’s side have been as yet unable to kick a ball in anger in the league but they will finally get their chance this coming Sunday.
City of Liverpool have begun the season with three consecutive league defeats and sit bottom of the table pointless and having scored only one goal.
Admission on Sunday is FREE, the bar is open and, as usual, everyone is welcome to watch the Women kick off their league campaign.
