It’s a full weekend of West as the FA Cup returns for the first team, the Reserves are in Cheshire League action and the Women’s team have their penultimate home pre-season fixture.
The weekend kicks off in Winsford as West travel to the Barnton Stadium in the Preliminary Qualifying Round of the FA Emirates Cup where they take on 1874 Northwich, 3pm KO.
1874 Northwich advanced with the benefit of a replay over rivals Northwich Victoria winning 2-0 at the Barnton Stadium after a 2-2 draw in the original fixture. West advanced with a 5-0 win away to Athersley Recreation.
1874 and West met in the FA Cup in Sett’s first season in charge when the Cheshire side ran out 3-0 winners at the Barnton Stadium in the Preliminary Qualifying Round.
Elsewehere, West’s Reserves travel to Golborne Sports for their first away game of the season. The seconds have started their season with two mid-week fixtures at home to Styal and Mersey Valley. Kick-off is 3pm.
Golborne Sports have collected three points from their opening three league games with a 2-1 win away to Egerton last weekend sandwiched in between home defeats to Daten,3 -4, and Deva Athletic, 1-2.
The two meetings between the sides last season produced goals as the two sides drew 3-3 at Egerton in October before West ran out winners 5-3 at Brookburn Road in March.
On Sunday, West Women will look to build on their draw against Stockport County last weekend when they welcome NWWRFL Division One North side Penrith to Brookburn Road, 2pm KO.
The visitors were runners-up last season and make the trip as one of the divisions favourites to go up this season. West came from a goal down to earn a draw last Saturday thanks to a goal from Leigh McFadyen in a game they dominated.
Kick off on Sunday is 2pm, admission is FREE, the bar is open and everyone is welcome.
