Following yesterday’s announcement of our fixture against Irlam being postponing, the North West Counties Football League have moved quickly to bring forward our home fixture against Congleton Town to Saturday 13 October, 3pm. Previously slated for Saturday 2 February – with that date now being free – the change of date means that West will again be at home for Non-League Day. Set up by James Doe in 2010, it has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar. Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, the event provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side.
Last season West ran Non-League Dog Day, where we invited people to bring down their dogs down to enjoy a game – gaining national attention from the BBC and Sky Sports, with the idea being so popular that it was used by other non-league sides later in the season to similar acclaim. While we will be running our own canine event later in the season (when the weather may be more amenable to dogs than mid-October), keep your eyes peeled for news on events happening around our Congleton Town fixture. The two sides latest match was only last Saturday, with our opposition earning a 4-1 victory that maintained their 100% start to the season – something that West will surely be looking to address in this reverse fixture.
Any further changes to our schedule will be announced via our website and social media channels.
