We are proud to announce that we have joined forces with campaign group The Big Step to call for an end to gambling-related advertisements and sponsorships in football.
The Big Step is part of Gambling with Lives, a community of families bereaved by gambling-related suicide, and also counts clubs such as Tranmere Rovers, Dulwich Hamlet, Sligo Rovers and Lewes among their partners.
To mark the partnership, West players will wear The Big Step warm-up tops and yellow laces before and during our game against Squires Gate.
West club secretary Rob Madden said:
“We are proud to support The Big Step and their campaign to end gambling advertising in football. We are a community club, and we believe that football clubs should be a force for good in their communities and the wider world. Gambling companies make huge profits at the expense of people’s lives.
“The huge and under-regulated presence of gambling advertising in football sponsorship exacerbates the problem and exposes supporters of all ages to something that can be extremely harmful – this is something that West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC stands against.”
