U9 Owls-Channeled their inner Simon and Garfunkel – Slip sliding away at Wilmslow town
Parents looked on from their camping shelter as their charges appeared to audition for a washing powder advert. Alas, they lost 4-1 to Wilmslow Jaguars on a mud bath of a pitch. Comedy slides and slips aplenty as the boys at least had some great fun. Blake scored the only goal for the wise men. The washing machines are still going..
U11’s Grabbed an absolute bargain in the Sale with a 5-2 away win at Sale Communities. The kids put in a great battling performance coming from 1-0 and 2-1 down. Goals from George (2) and one a piece from Wilf, Ted and Kofi. PoM Jacob Holt….the team is so glad to have him back after a long lay off.
Sunday 27th January
Result of the day went to the plucky U13 Badgers.. There was a collective falling off of chairs as the stripy try hards put in a fab collective shift in the face of some ridiculous wind.

U13 Ashton on Mersey Arrows v WD & C Magpies – Cup Semi final.
The Magpies glorious cup run (1st game after a first round bye!) came to a painful end as the Magpies were buffeted by the sharper arrows of Ashton.
Our 2 recent league match ups had decreasing goal difference each game. A 10 goal swing was reduced to 3 in the return fixture. Could this be the game where our recent buoyant form would trouble the league’s joint leaders?
A game that was moved more times than an undergraduate, finally saw us play away at Manor high school. A stiff, arctic wind with gusts of about 50 mph at times meant that any quality on show was replaced by pure slapstick comedy. Would the giant like forms of the Ashton bowmen prevail over the diminutive Magpies in this wind..?
The Magpies, playing into a breeze stiffer than a pair of our Statto’s ironed undies, actually started the brighter for the first 10 or so.
We channelled some Scottish links golf know how and kept the ball under the howling gusts. Connor played in the Hitman Haworth to cooly slot home from a tight angle. 0-1.
The remaining 20 minutes or so felt like swimming against a rip tide. The harder we tried to clear it from our half, the quicker it blew back. There were some counter attacks in our favour, but the Arrows were grateful for large slices of Laurel and Hardy style slapstick fortune for all 3 of their first half goals. Given the conditions and the previous games, we still felt in the hunt at half time (1-3).
The Arrows keeper and defence made a couple of crucial blocks in the 2nd half to keep us at wings length before delivering the knockout blow of a 4th. 1-4.
The plucky Magpies dusted themselves down and stiffened their resolve to pull back to 4-3 with swift replies from both of the dynamic duo up front -Ioanniesta and The Hitman.
We had them worried until their Goliath of a player drove the ball down the left wing into the wind knocking defenders out of the way like skittles and calmly driving past the plucky Fin in goal. 5-3.
Some savvy time wasting and a corner post routine that featured no less than 5 of their players in a rugby scrum style protection saw the bowmen home.
The sharp arrow flies better in a strong wind than a Magpie.

U15s without a league game arranged a friendly v local Didsbury rivals FC Bluestar. Playing with the fierce wind in the first half West went into a 3 goal lead with goals from Harry Redman and 2 from Dominic Greenwood. Second half playing into the wind was tougher and we conceded one although should have scored several more ourselves but some poor finishing and good saves kept it to 3-1. MOTM was Captain Fantastic Kipp Money Muter. Back to league action next week to try to stay top of the table.
U17s was called of due to a long charge sheet of misconduct issues for the opposition. Let’s hope the peace keeping efforts of NATO are not required for any future matchups.
