Sunday 20th Jan

Under 12’s played at home v south mcr sports who are at the bottom of our division. With this in mind we were able to play a few people in different positions notably Gabriel as a deep lying quarterback and Rory filling in for Morgan; our usual defensive lynchpin. Both had brilliant games and contributed massively to us winning 6-0. Our goal tally came from Sam x2, Iwan,Gabe, Rory and I’m giving the last one to Dylan. 2 assists each for Jess and Gabe. POM Gabe who was a constant menace sending over a succession of through balls. Rory and Gabe combining for our second through Iwan. After marshalling the defence and with the game won Rory was allowed up front and it was fitting for them both to score. Louis our first choice keeper who no longer wants to be in goal played really well in defence all game and Dylan made a few decent saves in the first half. Nice to win again.. even better to see some creativity going forward..Things will be much harder next week at home to Wilmslow.

U13s Badgers
Europa League (game 2)
Ashton on Mersey Titans (h)
Lost 3 – 5

PoM: all of them.
Battled throughout and best performance of season. The lads were wonderful.

Sunday Jan 20th
U13 Urmston Meadowside v WD&C Magpies Div 3.

The forward thinking Aki’s lack of presence at the training ground on Tuesday went largely unnoticed by the loyal West parents this week.  His citing of “special circumstances” went unquestioned by the rest of the brains trust too. The tactical masterclass that the Wily West delivered on a drab Sunday morning was clearly testament to the hour or so of covert espionage in a Flixton bush. Whether the insider information gained was key, we’ll never know. But that first half against our loftily placed opponents will live long in the memory bank of West’s players and fans alike.

Despite a makeshift warm up (fingers pointed at the coach for sporting the sort of “over tiredness” that George Best could only dream of), West set about their work where they left off last week. Surely back to back league wins was fanciful…Not seen since Nov 2017.

A formidable first half saw us cut though the Urmston ranks at will. We harried, pressed and passed with aplomb to race into a 0-4 half time lead.  Captain fantastic lead the way with a goal and 3 assists as the Hitman tormented the dazed Urmston defence.
The coaching staff mentally  retired after our 3rd goal. A high press on us at left back saw composure and slick passing personified right through the team.  A swift passage of play finished with a back post tap-in some 10 passes later. It doesn’t get any better. Any halftime confidence was undermined by a late arrival of their “star man”. A fully bearded and hefty “Oliver” suspiciously arrived without the usual officiating and took up a very central starring role. Fortunately for us, 007 Aki knew exactly what to do. “Sit on him Charlie” was probably a highly technical, mathematical code passed from father to son,  but whatever high tech code it was, it worked a treat. Our deeper lying midfield still managed to create havoc in the second half conjuring 3 more goals that capped a stupendous team performance and avoided any Fagan style picking of pockets.

7-0 suggests attacking prowess, but this defensive team performance forced turnover after turnover and ruthlessly punished anything slack. The back line,  lead by an impermeable First Aid “Kìt” snuffed out almost every threat and kept their first clean sheet since the glorious cup final of May 2017. It really was a magnificent seven.

The recent New Year turn around in form has mirrored that of their illustrious Old Trafford heroes.  The upcoming cup semi final might have to be conducted in Norwegian if this sort of form continues..

FT 0-7
Goals Jack “The Hit man” Haworth 4 (3 assists)
Will LR 1
Josh “Cool hand” Fookes 1
Charlie Atkiss 1(2 assists)

Potm “GI” Joe. All action hero.

Under 15’s- Sent out a title warning with an 8-0 away win at to Wythenshawe. They remain top of the league. Wilf Manley was MOTM while his dad was away swatting up on the Indian defensive press/Kabaddi tactics.

Goals: Samuel Berlyne, Nicquille Clifton (2), Daniel Eaton (3), Matthew Curry, Ben Solomon.

U16 and 17’s were scuppered by a combination of a tired pitch at Hardy Farm that had seen more action than Bozz’s line painter and thus needed a rest, and the opposite problem at Chorlton park that resembled a lumpy, bumpy captain caveman of a pitch with long tufts of grass all over it.. Both were postponed
