RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Matthew Durrant · 21/08/2018
Before this Bank Holiday Monday’s fixture against Whitchurch Alport, West will be hosting the inaugural Fans Invitational 7-a-side tournament. Imagined and devised by Tom Hostler – who, among other things, has been involved in the creation of some of the club’s finest flags – it allows fans of the club the chance to play on West’s hallowed training pitches ahead, and will hopefully be the first of many.
Speaking about the Invitational, Tom Hostler outlined details on the tournament; “As it’s the first one it’s an “invitational” tournament, but if it goes well I hope we can run it again next year with more teams! It’s a 7-aside tournament on Bank holiday Monday before the home game against Whitchurch Alport, on Hardy Farm [training pitches next to Brookburn Road] from 11am – 1pm. The 4 teams are: Dutch Uncles [headed by Pete Broadhead]; Krombacher Ultras [Matthew Durrant]; West Bank Ultras [Rich Stewart] and Windsor Wanderers [Tom Hostler]”
“Like all good ideas it was born in Chorlton ‘Spoons – West have one of the best fan bases around and we thought it would be a great idea to try and organise something social to get everyone together and we knew a few groups of fans had regular kickarounds and would be keen. Hopefully there will be some enjoyably competitive football on show although I probably wouldn’t recommend any club scouts get up early for it.”
Games will be hosted in a round robin format, before the two sides with the most points play in the final. All at the club look forward to welcoming down the sides, as well as spectators for both our Bank Holiday fixtures.
