It’s been an incredible month for new arrival Tom Bailey who has been nominated the wdcfc.co.uk supporters’ player of the month for August.
Having arrived in pre-season from Cheshire side 1874 Northwich, Bailey made his debut on the opening day of the season in West’s 5-0 FA Cup thrashing away to Athersley Recreation. It was the perfect start for the former Glossop North End man who added a brace to his man-of-the-match award. The first goal for West will be remembered for an exquisite chip over the on-rushing Rec goalkeeper and the second a close range scissor volley.
His home debut followed and he netted also as West raced into a three goal half time lead against Division One Champions, Widnes. Bailey added the third slotting home from a narrow angle on his way to the man-of-the-match award.
‘Bails’ was influential again the following Tuesday when he was a catalyst for West’s superb comeback at Bootle having been 3-1 in the game’s final stages before coming back to earn a point.
Although West ultimately exited the FA Cup at the next stage following a replay with 1874 Northwich the two games saw Tom Bailey celebrate goals against his former club.
Bailey followed that up with a brace and a man of the match showing in the 3-0 at Congleton adding two first half goals to secure West’s first ever win away to the Bears.
On Bank Holiday Monday a third man of the match award of the month was collected, in spite of Saul Henderson’s hat-trick, as West romped home with a 4-0 win over Runcorn Linnets.
Tom Bailey ended August having been an ever present in the West side scoring seven times in his seven appearances and collecting four man of the match awards.
