A sell-out Brookburn Road crowd watched West play out a goalless draw with Alsager Town before lifting the NWCFL First Division South championship trophy.
On a memorable day for the club, the action on the pitch didn’t quite follow the script as the resolute Bullets claimed a point in their bid to avoid the drop. However, a 16th clean sheet of the season ensured that West finished the season with an unbeaten home league record.
West’s clearest sights of goal came towards the end of each half – Tom Westall rattling the crossbar with a free kick in the closing moments of the first period, before Liam Delaney was off-target with a pair of headers as the game reached a conclusion.
The Bullets, whose fate is still unknown due to the machinations of the FA’s pyramid system, passed up a big opportunity to snatch all three points in the final minute of normal time when Jack Price fired over from the edge of the area.
West’s failure to score at home for only the third time this season couldn’t dampen spirits ahead of the trophy presentation, as players, management and supporters toasted West’s first title win since 2011.
