RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Matthew Durrant · 19/12/2019
West are looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to get involved with two vital aspects of our matchday experience, with positions available for our Matchday Announcer, and for a Programme Editor.
Following Barca Jim’s move to Leeds – we miss you, James! – recent games have taken place without one of the most crucial features of our matchday. Jim filled the role with his own inimitable character, and the ideal candidate would be similarly confident behind a microphone. Key tasks include announce the team before the game, giving any key updates on upcoming fixtures or events, and announcing the winning raffle ticket at half time: other than that, we’re happy for anyone with ideas to build on the position and make it their own. We’d once again like to thank Jim for all his efforts with the club, and the lack of his voice booming will make Brookburn Road forever poorer.
Breaking the tone somewhat, the position of Programme Editor is one I – Matthew Durrant – reluctantly took on in the summer, and despite slimming down the production, and making it online only, even this is something that I’m unable to easily fit into my schedule when factoring in other roles I fulfil in the club: such as writing this, for example. A matchday programme is something all at the club feel strongly that we’d like to continue, but without someone to take this on and make the project their own, that simply isn’t possible. The ideal candidate would have some experience in creating content, but more than anything they would be enthusiastic about the medium, able to produce on short and strict timescales, and able to produce for each and every home fixture. The club are obligated to make a matchday programme for each game, and failure to do so would result in a fine. This would be a perfect task for someone looking to get experience of working in a content-focused environment, with scope to sculpt the
