The club can confirm that Rob McKay has resigned as Club Secretary, having taken the decision for personal reasons. Having joined the club in 2013 in a media role, Rob quickly moved on to being a committee member and taking on the Matchday Secretary role in 2014/15 before taking up the position of Club Secretary in 2015/16. His hard work, dedication, and ingenuity have been crucial to the rapid growth of the club during that period, and his absence in the role will be keenly felt. Rob will continue to work with the club, chiefly in his position as the assistant manager to West Didsbury & Chorlton Women.
Speaking on the change in role, Supporter spokesperson Peter Jones said;
Club secretary is such a broad term, it’s fair to say most of us have no idea the commitment and investment it takes to be a good one. We’ve been very lucky at West to have Rob work tirelessly for the Club as he’s completed team sheets, signed players and replied to millions of emails from the league.
He was also a huge part in welcoming new fans to the club and played a significant role in growing the fan base. It’s really not long since crowds of 100 were a distant pipe dream. Now we average well over this number and he’s also found time to organise also launch a Women’s team.
His knowledge of the club and the league is meticulous and I speak for all fans when I say I hope West continues to benefit from Rob’s energy and passion as we push the club forward.
It’s a timely reminder of the countless hours of work all the volunteers do for West. If you can spare any of your own time, the club are always looking for further help. If not, buy them a Kromsie after a game sometime.
Everyone at the club would like to thank Rob for his efforts over the last few seasons in his role as Club Secretary, and we look forward to continuing to working alongside him going forward. Robert Madden has taken up the role in the interim, and all relevant enquiries should be sent to secretary@wdcfc.co.uk. The club will also be advertising for volunteers for specific roles over the coming weeks, and we hope that you would like to be involved.
