Midweek action returns to Brookburn Road this Wednesday as West take on an in-form Barnoldswick Town side under the lights.

With two vital cup games on the horizon – we welcome West Auckland in the FA Vase this Saturday before travelling to local rivals Maine Road in the Manchester FA Cup on Monday – and no further NWCFL fixtures until October 31st, this game offers a real chance for Steve Settle’s team a chance to leave an impression on the league table. Currently sitting in 6th, last weekend saw West come from behind away at Winsford: a good show of strength for a side that crumbled under similar pressure at points last season. Ben Steer continued his excellent form with a goal, with impressive new boy Declan Rydings, and Tom Bailey the other names on the scoresheet in the 3-1 victory. West are currently on a run of 4 wins in a row in the league, stretching to 6 with cup games included (the now expunged AFC Darwen defeat sitting in the middle of this).

Despite their relatively lowly standing in the table, Barnoldswick are certain to be a test of Chorlton’s mettle. Following a start of the season that saw highs (reaching the 1st qualifying round of the FA Cup and a 5-2 win over Burscough) and lows (a run of 8 games without a win), Barlick appear to have found their feet in the last week or so. A 3-1 home defeat to high-flying Hanley Town on the 7th October was a turning point, with Town snatching a last minute win at home to AFC Liverpool last Tuesday, before leaving it late again away at Barnton to seal another 3-2 victory. Having previously been flirting with the relegation places, Danny Craig’s side are now in 14th and will surely be setting their sights even higher in the coming weeks.

A win for West could see them go as high as 3rd, a draw would lift us to 5th, and a loss would simply see us lose ground on those above us. Barnoldswick Town could end Wednesday night anywhere between 18th and 9th.
