Kendal Town’s visit to M21 has been a long time coming, with the fixture already postponed on two occasions – this first-ever meeting between the sides comes late in the season, with West due to make the reverse trip to Cumbria at the start of April.
The Mintcakes’ first season at this level since 1986/87, following last season’s relegation from the Northern Premier League, began ominously – Jimmy Marshall’s side had to wait until their fifth league match for their maiden points.
But they have steadied themselves as the season has gone on and now sit comfortably in mid-table, and claimed an 11th win of the season last weekend with a 3-1 home victory over AFC Liverpool.
Kendal’s acclamitisation to the NWCFL has been aided by forward Thomas Kilfin, who has hit 15 league goals so far this season – a further eight in cup competitions making him the Premier Division’s joint-leading scorer, alongside Ben Elliott and Matthew Bryan.
