The midweek reverse against Lower Breck was the rarest of things, a league defeat at Brookburn Road, so Chris Rowley’s side will be eager to resume normal service when Congleton visit M21.
This will be a relatively quick reunion with the Bears, with the quirks of the NWCFL fixture computer meaning our second meeting of the campaign comes in the season’s third month.
Our August visit to Ivy Gardens ended in a 1-1 draw, with the home side snatching an equaliser in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time. That was one of the Bears’ 16 points so far this season, a return that sees them in 12th place coming into this weekend’s fixtures.
But Congleton’s most notable exploits this season have come in the FA Cup – after dispatching higher-division opposition in Bootle, Nantwich Town and Newcastle Town to reach the Third Qualifying Round, they were minutes away from eliminating National League North outfit AFC Fylde. However, the Coasters struck late to force a replay, which they went on to win 5-1.
