West’s Fifth Round penalty shoot-out win at Coventry Sphinx set up this meeting with Combined Counties Premier Division North leaders Ascot, who booked their place in the last eight with a single-goal win at Bridgwater United.
Both teams go into the weekend on the back of two successive wins – West collecting three points against Kendal Town and Squires Gate, while Ascot saw off Edgware & Kingsbury last weekend before winning at North Greenford United on Tuesday.
The Yellas’ win at North Greenford was their 23rd success in 27 league matches and extended their lead over second-placed Reading City to ten points, though Reading have two games in hand.
For West, this has been a record-breaking Vase run for some time – but Ascot have reached the last eight on two other occasions. In 2012/13 they bowed out after a replay against a side familiar to West supporters in Shildon, before AFC St Austell ended their run two years later.
