NWCFL Premier Division

It’s NON-LEAGUE DOG DAY as West return to Brookburn Road for the third time in a week as they look to build on their dramatic 4-3 win at home to Burscough on Tuesday night.
Following Saturday’s 5-4 loss at home to AFC Darwen in which despite goals from Tom Bailey (2), Matty Kay and Nic Evangelinos it wasn’t enough to prevent them losing a thrilling game which saw Chappy Massamba score four for the visitors.
Tuesday night saw an equally thrilling game as West raced into a two goal lead through Ben Steer and Nic Evangelinos but were pegged back to 2-2 by the break. Despite Tom Bailey restoring West’s lead just after half time the visitors responded again through Adam Gilchrist before Nic Evangelinos made the points safe in the dying moments of the game.
The victory was made all the more impressive by the fact that Manager Steve Settle was without Scott Mason, Mark Rogers, Gary Lilley, Joe Shaw, Harry Hagon and Pauli Loukola.
West welcome a Squires Gate side starting to show some form after they began the season with six straight league defeats. However they’ve rallied in recent weeks securing their first victory of the season in a 1-0 win over AFC Darwen before battling pack to earn a point against Padiham in mid-week in a 2-2 draw.
West and Squires Gate have met nine times previously with the Fylde Coast side leading the way with five wins to four with 29 goals having been scored to date.
There were three meetings last season with Squires Gate claiming victories in both the FA Cup and the league at Brookburn Road; winning both 3-2 in identical circumstances. Gate ran out into an early two goal lead before West drew level with the visitors eventually going on to win the game.
West earned a manner of revenge in March when they ran out 3-0 winners away thanks to a Nic Evangelinos hat-trick.
It’s sure to be a big occasion on Saturday as the dogs of non-league descend on the Recreation Ground along with the special guest of honour, @NonLeagueDogs, picking the best non-league dog. Anyone who attends the match with a dog will gain a concessionary admission.
For those who cannot make the game, as usual, West will have live updates on Twitter from 2pm @WD_CFC and Instagram.
