by Rob McKay · 14/06/2018
There will be the first ever meetings with two clubs for West as they continue to bolster their 2018 pre-season schedule.
On Tuesday 17th July West will welcome Evo-Stik First Division side Skelmersdale United to Brookburn Road with the game kicking off at 7.15pm.
Skelmersdale are founder members of the NWCFL and can trace their roots all the way back to 1892 as members of the Lancashire Combination. They finished 21st in the Evo-Stik First Division One North last season retaining their membership in the newly formed Division One West despite playing their games at the home of Prescot Cables.
The following Tuesday will visit NWCFL newcomers Rylands on Tuesday 24th July, 7pm KO.
Formed in 1911 the Warrington based side play their games at Gorsey Lane joined the Cheshire League in 1968/69 in which they were continuous members until they were promoted to the NWCFL Division One South this season as part of the leagues expansion. The club, who finished 10th in the Cheshire League Premier last season, count Paul Stretford amongst its committee as well as former Norwich City goalkeeper Bryan Gunn as their Director of Football. Stretford’s involvement has seen significant investment in the clubs facilities over recent seasons to aid not only their adult teams but their junior teams as well.
The only previous meetings between the two clubs have been West’s now defunct ‘A Team’ taking on Rylands Reserves in the Cheshire League Reserve League Two back in 2015.
These two fixtures take West’s schedule up to six matches joining Cheadle Town, Ashton United, Wyhthenshawe Town and Clitheroe in the list of fixtures already confirmed for West’s 2018 pre-season.
