RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Rob McKay · 18/07/2018
West will welcome Wythenshawe Amateurs to Brookburn Road for the first time since September 2011 as they replace Maine Road for West’s final home pre-season fixture on Saturday 28th July, 3pm KO.
The fixture has been arranged following Maine Road’s late withdrawal from the Rob Turley Memorial Trophy fixture due to a clash of fixtures.
West and Wythenshawe Amateurs last met in the Manchester League back in 2011 where the visitors ran out 1-0 winners at Brookburn Road against Andy Nelson’s 10 men. It was ‘Classic West’ in the return fixture as West ran out 4-3 winners having come from 3-2 down thanks to goals from Lee Shillito (2), Josh Ford and Danny Summer scoring the winner. The game made all the more remarkable by defender Matt Eckersley playing the last half an hour in goal in place of the injured Dale Newbrook.
‘The Ams’ have joined the NWCFL for the first time in their history having finished runners-up in the Manchester League for the last two seasons. They enter the Division One South alongside local neighbours, and West’s opponents on Saturday, Wythenshawe Town who themselves have just been promoted from the Cheshire League.
Admission for the game is £5 for adults, £3 concessions and FREE for under-12s accompanied by an adult. Season Ticket holders can gain free admission for the fixture on production of their season ticket at the gate.
