RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Rob McKay · 17/07/2017
Following West Didsbury & Chorlton Women’s 5-1 thrashing of Wythenshawe Amateurs on Sunday Women’s team captain Shaun Edmondson spoke to wdcfc.co.uk on the first performance in front of the home crowd.
“It felt amazing. The weather was beautiful and it was great performance from the girls who all did really well. It was a little nerve-wracking as we want to do well in front of all the supporters who came down to watch but it was really good to be back down at Brookburn Road.”
First half goals from Elizabeth Livesey and Leigh McFadyen put West in a commanding position before the game was put beyond the visitors in the second half with goals from Jamila Hodges, Livesey’s second and Georgia Vernardakis.
“This was my first game with the team, having missed the first one, and we put away the chances which was really pleasing. We put Wythenshawe under a lot of pressure in the first half and their keeper was pulled off a couple of really good saves but eventually we got the goal and that really lifted us.”
Edmondson added: “The girls are buzzing in the dressing room, excited to come to training and play matches and if we continue to work hard it’s going to be a terrific season for us.”
Having registered back-to-back wins already in pre-season West face a much tougher test this Sunday when they travel to Blackburn Community, 2pm KO. Their next home game is on Sunday 30th July, 2pm KO, when they face Burnley.
