With an entire round of games lost to the weather on Easter Monday adding to a slew of already postponed fixtures over the winter months, the NWCFL met last night to discuss, among other things, extending the league season (previously due to finish on Saturday 5 May). Today, the NWCFl released a statement, which can be read below. Any changes to the fixture list (including the rescheduled date of the South Manchester Derby), or impact upon the remainder of our season, will be reported on our website as soon as is possible.
Taken from the NWCFL website (viewable here):
Following a meeting of the League Management Committee yesterday evening, it was agreed to extend the League fixtures into Monday 7th May in order to help elevate some of the fixture backlog we face due to the weather. Our request to the Football Association to extend the season until Saturday 12th May has been acknowledged but we have not received a decision from The FA National League’s Committee. However, our own Committee felt that adding games to the Bank Holiday Monday as an interim measure would help until we receive a response from The FA, and would have little impact on the restructure of the National League System. As a result of this, we have taken the decision to postpone the scheduled LWC Drinks First Division Cup Final, due to be held at Runcorn Linnets FC on Monday 7th May, with the final being rearranged for Wednesday 9th May. The First Division Play Off semi finals, due to be played w/c 7 May will now be played on Saturday 12th May, with the final provisionally set for Thursday 17th May. The Macron League Challenge Cup Final, which is due to be played on Tuesday 15th May at Fleetwood Town FC will continue as planned due to the limited availability of the Football League clubs ground. The League Management Committee would like to thank all of our clubs for their co-operation on this matter, which is the result of unprecedented postponements which has seen 357 matches being postponed this season
