Notes from the committee – Charnock Richard

A very warm welcome to The Step Places Stadium to the committee, players and club officials from Charnock Richard FC, match officials and all spectators for our second foray into the Buildbase FA Vase this season in the second qualifying round.

With two consecutive home wins in the FA Vase and NWCFL respectively, our men’s first team go into today’s match high in confidence having made an excellent start to the new season, and we hope to continue that winning run today against strong opposition. Our matches against Charnock Richard FC have always been closely fought contests and hopefully our good form, together with home advantage and the support of our brilliant fans, will enable us to continue this momentum today.

Despite the bad weather last Saturday, our fans turned out in high numbers again and we were very close to our maximum of 300. The rain didn’t dampen our spirits and the message we sent via social media asking spectators to bring waterproofs and umbrellas helped us to maintain the social distancing measures in challenging circumstances to help keep us all safe.

Unfortunately, a number of images taken during the match versus Stockport Town and posted on social media were perceived as lapses of social distancing rules and attracted the attention of the NWCFL Committee, who issued us with a warning. In essence, similar reported breaches will result in Stage 2 approval being withdrawn, meaning a reduction in our capacity to a maximum of 150 spectators. Any further breach after that will result in our fixtures being withdrawn for four weeks. Clearly, this is very concerning and I urge everyone – spectators, players and team managers – to follow The FA guidance and rules and comply with the measures we have put in place.

Our Women’s first team also got off to a great start in their NWWRFL campaign last week with a home win against Wigan Athletic. Nathan and the squad worked hard in preparation for the new season, and the good pre-season form they took into the game helped them secure all three points.

I hope you enjoy today’s FA Vase match, which promises to be a good contest in what is a very prestigious competition.

Please remember to social distance: wash hands, cover your face and make space.

Come on West!
