Cup Semi final
Tues 23rd April
U13 Lymm Rovers Predators v Magpies
In what must surely be the most unconventional cup run in club history, the Magpies somehow found themselves in deepest Cheshire on a mild Tuesday night. Having got a bye in the first round and knocked out in the ¼ Final back in February, the cup dream was a distant, tarnished memory. Enter some player ineligibility/ skullduggery issues for no less than 3 teams (incl our original semi opponents) and hey presto, the smell of Trafford FC was wafting our way once again.
Despite starting the brighter of the 2 teams, and creating a number of very good chances, we managed to find ourselves 2 down after 30 minutes. The ref blew for half time and the ever alert whacky Aki almost leapt out of his moleskin loafers as he drew attention to the refs 5 minute gaff. A sheepish restart yielded a free kick that was parried, and followed in by Kit (as time stood still like a scene from the matrix), to smash the ball past the keeper high into the roof of the net.
Far away as we were from Barton, the smell of Trafford smelt just like the smell of fear emanating from the Lymm players.
The front 2 combined as well as they have done all season and unlocked the game to first equalise (Ioannis) and then take the lead (Harvey).
The breeze and slight slope seemed to suck the ball towards their goal for much of the second half as Ioannis got his second to give us a cushion at 2-4.
Despite cries of bus parking from the absent Andy, we yielded a 3rd to make us all a little nervy.
The now becalmed Aki, looking resplendent in his “Pep’ style casual cashmere sweater and slacks was not to be ruffled. The changes were rung and the team remained solid. Enter the Hitman. He eased our fears and delivered 2 knockout blows to crush the predators hopes with two trademark, well taken goals.
Final score 3-6.
The cup final will be contested at Linotype Cheadle Heath’s ground in Stockport @ 10.15ko V Sale United. After 2 losses against them already this season, we’ll be hoping for a cut price, end of season Sale on sunday… “Linotype, Linotype… We’re the famous black and white and we’re going to Linotype..” was ringing through the streets of chorlton on tuesday night..

The newly formed U14s took on local rivals Hough End U15s in a friendly to get used to the switch to grass and bigger pitches for many of the team.
“West started slowly & took a while for many of the lads to get comfortable with everything.
Excellent keeping from Fred aided by a solid back 4 we started to find our feet & it was good end to end stuff. We got 1 thru Helal & Became more comfortable & played some nice stuff & got stuck in a fair bit too.
Plenty of pressure on our goal but we buried our chances & went in at half time 3-0 up. 1 more from Helal & 1 x from Zak.
They came out stronger in the second half with a couple of beefier lads who intimidated us a lot for a while, they got 2 back (1 of which shouldn’t really of stood as Fred our GK received a Cantonaesque Kung fu kick in the build up) & we got another thru Helal. Quite tense stuff now as they got another & we were picking up knocks & injuries.we got another thru Salavador & saw out the last 5 mins. To win 5-3.
Great effort from every player tonight.
Let’s hope it continues!
Hopefully we will do it all again Vs Timperley U14s on Thursday eve in Sale.”
“The Under 15s tonight played their second ever international against Evergreen FC of Kilkenny. An Irish team on a mini tour and here to watch the derby. They had brought over 2 teams and the seconds played St Johns from our division (and lost) while we got to play the first team, sadly including a few players who have just been signed by league of Ireland teams such as shamrock rovers. It was a chastening though enjoyable experience against some excellent footballers and we lost 8-1 in the end despite some goalkeeping heroics. We could have scored more ourselves and our goal was a great Beckham-Esque long range effort from Daniel Eaton. The low mood caused by the result was improved by the provision of free beer and sandwiches in the Bowling Green for the team and parents after the game. While there was no Phil Jones style calamitous defending from them this evening I hope that at tomorrow night’s game their favoured team are on the receiving end of a similar score line.”
