MATCH REPORT | West Women 5-0 Chester

West made it eleven wins in a row thanks to a comfortable 5-0 win over Chester extending their 100% record in the NWWRFL Division One South.

West were able to welcome back Amy Vyas, Katy Wilman and Jami Hodges into the squad but were without midfielders Shauna Edmondson, Vicky Frisby and Vicky Kerr.

West got themselves off to a perfect start as Rachael Dunlop burst down the right-hand side seeing her cross bounce off the outside of the post and kept alive by Orla Conlon before being tucked into the corner by Chloe Spencer to make it 1-0 after just three minutes.

It was 2-0 on nine minutes as Elizabeth Livesey released Dunlop, this time down the left-hand side, and drove into the box drawing the Chester goalkeeper before slotting her shot into the bottom right hand corner for her 21st goal of the season.

On 18 minutes Dunlop again found herself in space down the left, lofting a cross to the far post that just evaded Sophie Bracegirdle who’d raced to the far post to meet it. Dunlop turned provider for Livesey on 24 minutes slotting the West striker in with a tidy lay-off but the forward couldn’t direct her effort on target.

Dunlop added her second on 31 minutes as Spencer played the ball into the feet of the West number nine laying it off to the overlapping Amy Friel on the left wing with her cross again finding the feet of Dunlop who smashed the ball into the bottom right hand corner off the post.  Captain-for-the-day Katy Wilman almost added a fourth as she found Chloe Spencer’s corner at the far post but could only watch as her shot was blocked on the line.

The fourth duly arrived on 36 minutes as Bracegirdle’s cross skimmed off the hard of Livesey before Amy Vyas signed off for the season by rolling the ball into the far post to add her third goal of the season to make it 4-0 at half time.

Rachael Dunlop has now scored 22 goals in 14 appearances for West this season

Chester, to their credit, didn’t fold and remained organised as they limited West to half chances throughout much of the second half as West turned to their bench introducing teenager Abi Littler, Jami Hodges and the returning Vicky Lomas.  It was two of these who combined for the final goal when Littler released Bracegirdle down the right whose low cross was drilled perfectly into the path of Lomas who finished first time from 6 yards out.

The victory extended West’s winning run to eleven games in all competitions and see’s them in second place just three points behind leaders Liverpool Feds Reserves with 6 games in hand.  West will now turn their attention to the Manchester Women’s Challenge Cup as they face Sale United in the quarter finals at Nichols College on Wednesday night, 7:30pm KO.
