 Merseyrail LFC
West’s first home game of the season was a competitive affair and a significant step up in the quality of the performance compared to last week at Tranmere. Sadly, the result didn’t go our way.
Merseyrail had a strong start and the first five minutes was pretty much one way traffic until Isha Mundell’s pace provided a real threat for West on a couple of occasions.
The visitors did take the lead on 15 minutes beating Claire with a finish that had more than its fair share of good fortune. Decent response from West though and on 21 minutes Sophie Bracegirdle delivered a perfect corner which Rach Mason headed home.
The game was evenly balanced for the next 20 minutes, with few clear chances, but it was the visitors who again got themselves in front just before the break.
HT 1-2
Other than a decent Hannah Mitchell strike on 56 minutes that was always rising, the game once again settled into one of few chances, West struggling to get back on terms. So it was until the 76th minute when Merseyrail extended their lead and West had it all to do.
Hope sprung with 5 minutes to go when West were awarded a penalty. Despite a delay, Biff showed great composure to bury it and set up a possible big finish. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and the visitors saw out the last few moments to take all 3 points.
FT 2-3
West team: Jefferson (GK), Dolan (Sumner 35’), Livesey, Mason, Hodges, Bracegirdle, Mitchell, Vyas, Mundell, Frisby, Gunn
