RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE

West succumbed to an injury time defeat in a scrappy, frustrating performance.
The first half was fairly even, the visitors enjoying the best of the opening period and West finishing the stronger, but the issue for West is that they failed to test the opposition keeper. Taylor Gunn looked isolated up front and there were very few options for West in the opposition area.
The second half started much the same. Decent pressure from West but still unable to test the keeper. New signing Sarah Ashton replaced Abbie Wright on the hour mark and it gave us a different attacking option.
However, somewhat against the run of play it was Fleetwood who took the lead, an unmarked header from a corner on 65 minutes.
West were level just a minute later. This time it was the visitors who failed to deal with a corner, and it looked like Amy Vyas who got the final touch for the goal.
West were briefly on top and looked to push for another goal, but as time went on and we approached the final 10 minutes, it was anybody’s game. Disappointingly, it turned out to be Fleetwood’s. We allowed a cross into the box, didn’t deal with it and the ball ended up in the net.
