The opening league game of the 2022/23 season saw a hard fought but deserved win for West.

The match day squad was a mix of familiar and new faces. We looked very solid at the back and Claire in goal had relatively little to do.

West started brightly winning a corner from the kick-off. Debutant Annabell Veryard almost opened the scoring in the 4th minute, an amazing strike from 35 yards rattled the crossbar and the visiting keeper did well to get a hand to the rebound.

We saw plenty of possession in the half but other than a couple of half chances in the 35th minute, we were lacking a cutting edge.

The second half was a similar affair, West enjoying more of the ball but unable to open up the Mossley Hill defence. That all changed in the 83rd minute when Jami Hodges played a ball to Becca Simpson whose return through ball was excellent, Jami then managed to lift the ball over the keeper and into the bottom corner for what proved to be the match winner.
