RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE

Saturday 2nd November 2019, NWCFL First Division South
West 0 (Forbes sent off 30)
Cheadle Heath Nomads 0
Att: 226
West ground out a point against Cheadle Heath Nomads despite playing for an hour with ten men.
Jamie Forbes’ dismissal for a foul on the half-hour mark was the one major flashpoint in a match otherwise low on incident. Both sides had chances when West were at full capacity, with Andrew Jones producing an impressive close-range stop in the opening 60 seconds and James Cottee seeing a pair of shots gathered by the Nomads keeper.
Nomads hit the post from close range not long after Forbes was given his marching orders, but though the visitors dominated possession with a man advantage, West defended obstinately to prevent the visitors crafting out clear opportunities. Matt Eckersley and Matt Cook were both positioned perfectly to cut out low crosses as Nomads looked to turn up the pressure in the second half, but in the main Jones was untroubled in the West goal.
Brad Cooke’s side made a belated push for a winner in the final few moments with Eckersley heading a corner wide and Callum Jones seeing a 35-yard free-kick whistle over, but a decisive goal was not forthcoming as Brookburn Road witnessed a league goalless draw for the first time in almost five years.
West: A. Jones, Cook, Cooper, C. Jones, Forbes, Eckersley, Grimshaw, Holt, Cottee, Boland (Middleton 35), Sigsworth (Gavin 64). Not used: Tinker, Steer, Moloney.
West media player of the match: Matt Eckersley.
