RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Robert Lee · 13/02/2018
Tuesday 13th February 2018 (7.45pm), NWCFL Premier Division
West v City of Liverpool
Brookburn Road, M21 8FE
£5 adults, £3 concessions, free for under-12s accompanied by an adult
After two consecutive postponements, it will hopefully be third time lucky on Tuesday night as West welcome City of Liverpool to Brookburn Road.
West will be eager to avenge January’s 6-1 defeat on Merseyside, a game in which they were level and looking comfortable before conceding five times in the final half an hour. Steve Settle will have defensive reinforcements to call upon, with Matt Eckersley returning to the club from Cefn Druids and Lanre Olapede arriving on dual-registration from Ashton United.
If the Purps’ hopes of back-to-back promotions are beginning to fade, a top-six finish and marker ahead of next season is well within their grasp. They lie 20 points behind second-placed Widnes, but have nine games in hand on the Halton side and only 1874 Northwich have played fewer matches in the top half. Their 2-1 win at Congleton at the end of January was their fifth win in six games, with a derby reverse at “home” to landlords Bootle the only blip in that period.
