After waterlogged pitches, snow-covered pitches and floodlight failures, West are finally set to welcome AFC Liverpool to Brookburn Road on Thursday night – the second home game for Steve Settle’s side in three days.

The second attempt at playing this fixture, on 3rd March, was billed as a relegation six-pointer but West are now closer to the top six than the bottom four after a terrific start to spring. Tuesday night’s excellent win over Padiham was their fourth victory in a row and they have taken 17 points from a possible 24 since that postponement against Thursday’s visitors.

For the Reds, meanwhile, the situation has become even more critical. They lost 2-0 at Widnes at the weekend and, with more teams beginning to pull away from the relegation vortex, a swift reversal in fortunes is needed if they are to avoid being cut adrift. They have only won once in their last ten games, and outstanding assignments include champions-elect Runcorn Linnets alongside promotion-chasing Runcorn Town, Hanley Town and 1874 Northwich.
