RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE

West v AFC Darwen
Brookburn Road, M21 8FE

After last weekend’s trip to Runcorn Town was postponed, West will try to beat the weather again on Tuesday night as AFC Darwen visit Brookburn Road.
Tuesday’s game will be the third attempt at completing this fixture. The Salmoners won the original September meeting 5-4, but that result was voided after Chappy Massamba, who scored four times for Darwen that day, was found to be ineligible. The first attempt at replaying the match, in early December, was scuppered by a waterlogged pitch.
The confiscation of Darwen’s three points in September was just one of a series of lows in an excruciating campaign thus far. The Salmoners return to Brookburn Road 13 points from safety, and only Barnton have garnered fewer points and conceded more goals. A goal difference of minus-53 was not helped by 9-1 and 10-0 annihilations at Charnock Richard and Bootle respectively in recent weeks.
West would climb above Squires Gate into 15th with a win, but they would be wise not to underestimate a Darwen side that accounted for holders City of Liverpool in this season’s Macron Cup and held Runcorn Town in November.
