Saturday 10th November 2018 (3pm), Macron Cup second round
Eccleshall v West
Pershall Park, Eccleshall, Staffordshire, ST21 6NE
£5 adults / £3 concessions
West will look to make the most of a Macron Cup reprieve when they travel to Eccleshall this weekend.
Steve Settle’s side lost to Oswestry Town on penalties in the first round, but an administrative error by the Shropshire club meant West were reinstated and will travel to Staffordshire in Oswestry’s place.
This bonus fixture represents a chance to reach the third round of the League Cup for the first time since 2014, as well as an opportunity to correct an awful record in the cups this season – West have lost every knockout match so far this term, including the annulled fixture in Oswestry. But most importantly, it represents another shot at simply winning a game – Tuesday night’s harrowing Lancashire Challenge Trophy exit to Ashton Athletic was West’s ninth defeat in a row and a nadir in a miserable season.
First Division South Eccleshall reached this point by beating Darwen 3-2 in round one, but like West they find themselves at the wrong end of the league table. They haven’t won in the league since beating Alsager Town on 15th September, and one week later suffered an ignominous 11-3 drubbing at home to Wythenshawe Town.
