City of Liverpool v West
TDP Solicitors Stadium, Bootle, L30 1NY
£6 adults / £3 concessions / free for under-15s
West travel to Merseyside this weekend looking to inflict a first league defeat of the season on table-topping City of Liverpool.
Steve Settle’s side fell to a late home defeat against Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday night despite leading twice through Scott Mason and Saul Henderson. They face an ominous task against a Purps side who have won nine of their 11 league games so far this term, but can take confidence from the sides’ last meeting at the end of last season, when West won a memorable game 4-3 at the home of Atherton Collieries.
City of Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw at Silsden last time out but sit two points clear of second-placed Runcorn Town as they aim for a second promotion in three seasons. The Purps have been in devastating form this season and have scored at least four goals on six separate occasions – including an eye-catching 6-3 defeat of 1874 Northwich on opening day – but they suffered a heavy defeat of their own in the FA Cup when they were beaten 4-0 at Chester.
The quirks of the NWCFL calendar mean that this is the first of two meetings between the sides this month – the Purps visit Brookburn Road on 27 October.
