West begin 2020 in pursuit of the First Division South top four, beginning with a visit to a resurgent Alsager Town.
A difficult festive period left Chris Rowley’s side 12 points off 4th-placed Abbey Hey with one game in hand, meaning it is imperative that West begin the new calendar year on the front foot.
The Bullets have bad memories of games against West this season, shipping ten goals in two November league and cup visits to Brookburn Road, but the Cheshire side promise to represent a stiffer challenge this time around. New manager Stewart Tulloch, appointed after a 3-0 home reverse to Abbey Hey that stretched Alsager’s winless run to 12, has overseen a dramatic reversal in fortunes and has a 100% record after two games.
Tuesday 26th November 2019, West 4-1 Alsager Town: West registered a second comprehensive victory over Alsager Town in the space of a month to secure three valuable points.
Seventeen days after a 6-1 win over the same opponents in the Macron Cup, West racked up more goals against the beleaguered Bullets who again finished with ten men on a night of déjà vu.
The West team that evening: A. Jones, Cooper, Cook, Tinker, Forbes, Eckersley, Argent-Barnes, Holt (C. Jones 77), Grimshaw (Boland 77), Moloney (Cottee 66), Blackwell.
Goals: Holt 59, Grimshaw 73, Cottee 75, 90+4
