After Wednesday’s trip to Northwich Victoria was curtailed due to fog, West will hope this weekend’s journey back to mid-Cheshire is more productive as they face 1874 Northwich.
Despite Wednesday’s postponement it is a case of as you were for West, with 19th-placed Hanley Town’s midweek game also falling foul of the weather. That means they lie three points ahead of Hanley and level with 1874’s tenants Winsford United, who travel to Irlam.
1874 are on a four-game losing streak, including a first defeat to their bête noire Northwich Vics last weekend, and there may be disappointment at a failure to kick on following a memorable campaign last term. But the Greens do have momentum off the pitch – this is their last season at the Barton Stadium before they depart for Barnton’s more central Townfields, and in November the Cheshire FA confirmed 1874 were their preferred tenants for a proposed new facility in Northwich.
Despite the Greens’ poor form they can still rely on Scott McGowan, who has plundered 24 goals so far this season, and they maintain a stranglehold over West having lost just once in 12 meetings.
