West are on the road for the first time this season as they travel to Staffordshire to face last season’s promotion rivals Stone Old Alleynians.
The opening-day win against Stockport Town was followed by an FA Vase exit at the hands of Charnock Richard, but Chris Rowley’s side will be looking to get back on track with three points against the Old Boys.
Stone challenged at the top end of the table for the entirety of last season and were 4th when the campaign was halted, but they go into this game still looking for their first points of the season. Wayne Brotherson’s team fell to a heavy defeat at Vauxhall Motors on 3rd October before being undone by a last-minute Abbey Hey winner three days later. On a brighter note, they did secure FA Vase progression at the weekend as they beat Dudley Town 2-0 in the West Midlands.
West will hope this game follows the same pattern as the fixtures between the sides last season – both games resulted in away wins, with Rowley’s side putting in one of the performances of the season to win 1-0 at Yarnfield in January, four months after the Old Boys had inflicted West’s first league defeat of the season at Brookburn Road.
