The storm of the week “Jorge” poured more water onto pre-existing football misery this week as further downpours did as much for football as COVID-19 is doing for the global population. Saturday was a washout, and only the plucky set forth with the tune that U2 never sang “Sunday, Muddy Sunday” firmly in their minds. Goals rained in like the week’s weather as West won the only 3 fixtures to survive the storm.
Under 13’s won away 5-4 v Urmston meadowside on astro at Flixton Girls school. Goals from Kaylum 2 Jack 1 Sam 2 sealed the win.
“Coming back from 2-0 down at half time on a wind affected pitch, we soon hit 2 in second half and then another 2 to lead 4-2. A Triple substitution paid dividends as we immediately went 5-3 up only to concede another…Urmston, with only 1 defeat in 5 games, played really well and kept pressing. There were good saves from both keepers and it was a really exciting game that you want to be on the right side of. .We play them again next week without one of our keepers and Jess who had a great game today and will be missed. .Pom Louis Davidson at left back.
U14 Badgers
Division 5 (h)
Urmston Meadowside Juventus
Won 5-2
Scorers: Teddy (2), Kayden (2), Austin
PoM: Louie – great debut in goal and made some great saves
Under 16s are through to their divisional cup final following a fantastic 4-3 win over top of the table Brooklands Dragons Cosmos. On a blustery but dry Chorlton park we were 1-0 down, 2-1 down and then 3-2 up then 3-3. We clinched the game with a last minute winner to book our place at Trafford FC on finals day. Fantastic performance from the boys.
