U9 Owls Lost 0:7 to Wilmslow Panthers in a developmental game in wind and rain. Player of Match William McElwee for consistency of good passes and effort.
Sunday 28th April:

“Excellent performance – got revenge for the Cup final defeat, lads fully deserved it after a long season!!
Following a rather fortuitous cup “Run”, the mighty U13 Magpies found themselves in a Cup Final versus Sale United Phoenix.
“Linotype” in Stockport was the odd-sounding setting for the Sunday morning clash, and as the warm, spring sunshine began to peek from the clouds, the collection of family and friends were wondering if the under dogs/birds of West could upset the form book.
Ditching his recent “Pep” look, for the regulation shorts/socks around ankles of his north eastern roots, Aki had us at the ground early for a calming, Zen relaxation session to ease the teenage nerves. The wise Yoda-like master should never be underestimated.
The Magpies started well and passed the ball around slickly on the lush, green outfield. On 10 minutes Charlie “assist king” Atkiss picked out Joe Haworth with a peach of a pass, who then broke down the left, cut inside on to his favoured right and arrowed a shot into the top corner. Could the Phoenix be downed in the glowing sun?
We only held out for 5 minutes as confusion and chaos reigned when our keeper and centre half were pressed into a ricocheted clearance that thwacked off the Stretford wall and in to the net. Misfortune #1.
5 minutes later and another pressed back pass followed a similar course as the clearance hit the closing attacker to deflect in to the net. Misfortune #2.
1-2 @ HT, we felt we had played the better football and that sticking to the plan would reap its rewards. Don’t panic captain mannering.
The second half saw more chances come and go for us as the usually ruthless marksmen couldn’t find their targets, and balls just didn’t quite run for us.
A quick goal kick was returned with interest just as quickly to lob the back pedalling Fin, and knock the stuffing out of us. 1-3. Misfortune #3.
A well struck 4th rubbed salt into painful wounds as the scoreline flattered them 1-4. The Phoenix was flying.
A game of fine margins, missed opportunities and misfortune. A cup run that stumbled from start to finish, a Phoenix that rose from the ashes and a useful experience that the boys should be proud of. It was like a dream where you can never quite catch the object you’re chasing.
Many West fans who hadn’t seen us play before were amazed at our slick passing out from the back, the array of skills on show and our Zen like calmness in the team.
And I didn’t notice a bit if lino all day.

U15s “produced their best performance of the season to beat previously unbeaten Beechfield Utd. As the tactical geniuses on the touch line switched from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 to 4-3-3 and back again with gay abandon the boys played superbly well, while on the receiving end of some pretty rough treatment from the boys from Salford who are unlikely to have ever heard of humous let alone eaten it. Beechfield went into an early lead and dominated with the slope in their favour but we went in at h-t all even after a sweet far post finish from Samuel Berlyne made it 1-1. Second half Harry Redman scored a screamer from the edge of the box and Nicquille Clifton scored from the spot after being felled by their keeper after rounding him and be about to tap it in. The keeper should have been off but after Beechfield pulled one back he was seen in our box up for the corners as Beechfield threw everything as us in the attempt to keep their title hopes alive. Final score 3-2 to West and we go joint top again. Final 2 games are against 1st and 4th. Win those 2 AND if today’s opponents can beat Sale we are champions. Not in our hands but we have hope.”
U17s
“Another tipsy turkey game v Sale United U18s
3-0 up then pulled back to 3-3 at half time
2nd half went 6-3 up and ended up winning 6-5
Looks like we have secured a 2nd place finish which is a massive achievement as we are playing in an U18s & u19s division. So proud of the lads.
Our last game is our cup final on Wednesday 8th May at Flixton F.C. 6pm

U13 Magpies v Egerton Tatton
A post-final malaise and a dead rubber of a Europa league game did nothing to quell the end of season feel about this fixture Vs these table toppers from Tatton. The smartly attired Aki, back in his best “Pep” outfit, even afforded himself the luxury of a top button loosening on this mild evening.
An under powered Magpie outfit were immediately under the pump against a team of giants but held out for 15 minutes before one of many booming corners was headed in by one of their Crouch-eque players. It may be saving the planet, but this hummus and quinoa diet does nothing for the growth rate of an U13 chorltonite.
A late sparkling solo effort from their rapid galloping gazelle capped a first half that had us clinging on rather than threatening. 0-3 at HT was a fair reflection really of both chances and possession domination.
A run and cross from the possession starved Ioanniesta found Charlie Atkiss, who swivelled and accurately picked out the top corner for a nice reply 1-3. There was little else to cheer for the Magpie faithful as the Cheshire giants continued their dominance and ran out 1-5 winners. A late goal made the scoreline look worse than the 2nd half suggested. A good effort, but we were dwarfed in both height and class. The game ended a Europa group to forget. P4 L4.
POTM :Jack Twomey Waterfield. Showed defensive calmness under pressure, and provided a comedic highlight.
