An exciting match of silky skills and a gazillion shots on goals, only to ping off the posts/bar. Goals from Seth and Oscar. Player of Match Seth.
A great game of football, this time we started on the front foot, putting pressure on every ball. We had plenty of chances to score in the first half with a Jake on fire upfront and a 3-4-1 formation which helped us to have a good balance between defence and offence. The lads gave it all and some great passing and runs gave us the edge. A more balanced game when we let them out an extra player on in the second half. A fantastic game today! Great team effort!
Goal scorers: Jake(2), Youri, Luca, Sacha, Bailey
Pom: the whole team.
The U15 Magpies hopped into their 4th league fixture with their confidence lower than Aki’s hipster pants. After a week dodging covid bullets left, right and centre, it was a relief to get back on a football pitch.
A late drop out and a coffee van generator disaster made for ominous omens as the reunited, full strength management team opted for a formation that Mick McCarthy would approve of. The physical, chirpy, top of the league opponents were kept at a safe wings reach during the opening exchanges that saw us lose Josh to the hamstring that put an IOU in last week’s post. It arrived 3 minutes into the game and required a quick re jig of our back 4.
The long range efforts bore fruit for the Dragons as a parried shot fell kindly to a stealthy sniper at the far post for a tap in. A scrappy cross and scramble yielded a similar result as the Magpies were unlucky to find themselves 2 down at the break. Harsh on the magpies who harried and rattled all of the players, parents and opposing manager. Get one back and things may implode.
We spurned our early sniffs and had our beaks busted with a couple more goals that would have Alan Hansen revved up for at least 15 minutes. 0-4.
A personnel switch put our Brazilian sounding summer signing wide on the left. Zeno twice cut in from his flank to ping the ball past the impish keeper and give to give us a sniff. Tea cups visibly rattled on our touch line once again. The Wham boys meanwhile remained cool.
Alas, key moments in the penalty area didn’t quite fall our way and the game fell away with a couple more avoidable goals.
Last week the only positive was a top up of our collective vitamin D. This week we mixed it with a good team and had them worried for large chunks of the game. They weren’t 4 goals better than us. We gifted too many chances to the Dragons and they duly singed our wings.
Final score 2-6
Goals:Zeno x2
Potm: Adeyo. Strong and combative performance. Linked well with his forward allies.
Missing three outfield players today and up against a good gk. parent kept giving my running commentary which was good. We go again next week
Scorers: Austin (2)
PoM: Their GK!
Mike has declined to comment through fear of talking himself into trouble with the FA. Frustration and long silent walks abound.
