An entertaining battle today with a blistering start to go two nil up before our opponents fought back to level the game. Luka, having scored both, then turned creator – winning the ball high up the pitch and setting up James H to leather it past the keeper. The second half was a literal uphill battle, Egerton scoring early and penning us in our own half for long periods. They couldn’t find the winner though and we left relieved with the draw, if a little disappointed that we didn’t punish them more early on. We also scraped a victory in the unofficial penalty shootout – didn’t affect the result, just for shots and giggles!
Goals: Luka (2), James H (1)
PoM: Leon – led the valiant rearguard defence; hassling, clearing and making them snatch at chances
Hawks enjoyed a comfortable morning against yet another team named after a big cat, although they did have a splendid 1970s Holland-style kit.
Joe strode through midfield and finished with aplomb as he scored his first ever goal. A crisp finish from outside the box gave him his second moments later. There won’t have been a bigger smile anywhere in football this weekend.
Earlier, Lucien’s opener was controversially ruled out as it burst through the side netting but Urmston showed their sporting qualities, telling the ref it had gone in. A ball lost in the bushes was the Hawks’ main problem and they went on to keep a rare clean sheet.
U17s kept up the pressure at the top of the table with a resounding 9-4 win in leafy Hale. 3-0 up at half time flattered us as Daniel pushed us ahead with a first half hat-trick. It seemed unfair on Alty who had played well and their half-time team talk had the desired effect as suddenly is was 3-2 and a tight game. More goals were exchanged before Alty tired and Daniel went on to bag his double hat-trick with 6 fine goals and a quick fire hat-rick from Nicquille added to the goal-fest. 9-4 final score and notable also for 4 assists for winger Benji. Just like the Prem and Champions league race the final game on 6th June will see us finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th
