RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by West Didsbury & Chorlton · 23/09/2019
The club are happy to announce that James Sigsworth has joined the West squad, and will go into contention for Tuesday’s game away at New Mills AFC.
Formerly of Daten FC and Atherton Collieries, he joins from Ashton Town, who currently sit second in the North West Counties Division One North. Those who attended the pre-season fixture between the two sides are likely to remember Sigsworth – he was the standout player as Ashton left Brookburn Road with a 3-2 victory. Sigsworth played a decisive role during Colls’ debut season in the Northern Premier Division One, while also making appearances as they went on to become champions last season. He initially joined Ashton Town on loan, before making the move permanent towards the back end of the last campaign. He had made 4 appearances for Ashton so far this season, scoring 1 goal.
Last time out, James made 20 appearances for Town, earning 11 Player of the Match awards in the process and being chosen in the Counties Podcast Squad of the Season for the division.
Speaking on confirmation of the deal, manager Brad Cooke said: “Siggy is someone I tried signing in the summer, unfortunately, we missed out on him for one reason or another, but the opportunity came round again and in the end we got our man. He is a really gifted football player who can play anywhere in the attacking third. He is someone who gets you excited when he gets on the ball and I’m sure he will be a huge fan favourite. He adds to what is already a very strong squad. I am delighted to have him on board.”
We’d like to thank Ashton Town for their co-operation in the transfer, and wish them well for the rest of the season.
