RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Robert Lee · 01/02/2022
The Lemurs are our mascots for this Saturday’s home game against Cheadle Heath Nomads. Learn more about them below!
Words by Lemurs manager Mark Bedford
Some of our Under-10s Lemurs have been playing together since they were four years old, but the Lemurs were officially formed three years ago.
Their first season was very successful, coming top of their league but sadly losing out in the final 1-0. This season at U10s level is also going well so far, and they have reached the final of the Autumn Cup which has yet to be played.
The team have been celebrating their teammate Roary, who has just successfully completed a cycle of three years’ treatment for leukaemia after having been diagnosed in 2018. During his treatment, he continued playing for the Lemurs whenever he was up to it and scored many vital goals.
All of the boys are avid West fans and will often be found down at Brookburn Road on match days cheering West along, and Herbie can also often be seen on away days. The Lemurs like to play wide and love trying to find that split pass to open up defences.
Their favourite players for West are Billy Matthews and Dontai Gabidon due to their high energy and attacking style down the wings and Sam Heathcote due to his goal scoring prowess, team spirit and dominating performances.
All the boys love playing for West, the enjoyment they get from it can be seen on their faces every Saturday morning (unless they lose), they enjoy working together as a team and encouraging each other to play the best football possible.
