Preview

After Friday’s postponed match, we try again on Tuesday as we face Kendal Town in the NWCFL. After a hectic autumn and winter period, the weekend off football will have felt strange for West players and supporters but for many in the squad, the break was needed. The team will be hoping though that no momentum was lost after what has been a good few weeks for the club. We progressed to the Fourth Round of the FA Vase at Whitley Bay and followed that up with progression to the Third Round of the Lancashire Challenge last Tuesday with a victory over AFC Blackpool.  Confidence should be high and we will be aiming to stretch our unbeaten spell to seven games and strengthen our position in the mini-league which is beginning to form in the top half of the table.

Chris Rowley was able to shuffle the pack for last Tuesday’s match, making eight changes to the weekend before’s lineup, and creating some selection decisions to make for Tuesday’s match. Connor Hancock and Rhain Davis were absent from the squad after taking heavy knocks at the weekend and will have been grateful for the extra recovery time they have been given. Liam Delaney also played through illness but will be keen to retain his starting place.

It was a difficult 2021/22 season for our visitors – They only gained 12 points and were relegated to the NWCFL from the Northern Premier League. Understandably, it took them a few weeks to find their feet back in the NWCFL but theyare now hitting the form they have been looking for; Before Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat away at Avro, The Mintcakes had gone eight matches unbeaten, including an attention grabbing 8-0 victory over Kirby Stephen in the Westmorland Senior Cup. Before their Avro defeat, they picked up home victories against Congleton and Barnoldswick and an away win against Burscough, where their 17 goal striker Thomas Kilifin bagged a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory. West will need to keep him under wraps and perform well to earn the three points. Your support will be vital.

Come on West!
