by Matthew Durrant · 15/08/2018
Having wowed fans at Brookburn Road over 2 seasons that encompassed multiple moments of magic and some spectacular goals, West supporter favourite Carlos Mendes Gomes took his first steps towards winning over a new batch of spectators last night as he came on as a second half substitute during Morecambe’s Carabao Cup game away at Preston North End. With his team already 3-1 down at Deepdale, Carlos and his team were unfortunately unable to overturn to deficit during his 25 minute appearance. Having joined Morecambe in the summer from West having impressed in appearances for their reserve team, this marked his debut for Jim Bentley’s first team.

Some Shrimpers followers have already begun to be won over by Mendes-Gomes’ talent, with some calling for his inclusion in Saturday’s matchday squad.
Feel sorry for everybody at Stevenage on Saturday if Mendes-Gomes doesn’t play, the lad is a talent

Carlos himself was obviously disappointed with the end result, but still pleased to have made another step up in his footballing career.
Not happy with the result but good play from the boys and delighted to make my debut for @ShrimpsOfficial in tonight’s game… for many more to come??️? pic.twitter.com/RLDxmXuo5F
